Huntsville Real Estate

Huntsville real estate is some of the most affordable across the nation, with the median house’s value sitting just below $100,000, and plenty of starter or smaller homes available for even less than that. Often, such cheap housing is indicative of a defect in the area, such as a miserable climate or poor economy, but in Huntsville this is not the case. Residents can have their cake and eat it too, with affordable housing, beautiful weather, and a stable community and economy.

The Stats on Huntsville Real Estate:

The vast majority of Huntsville homes are valued somewhere between $60,000 and $150,000, but it is possible to find homes that are extremely cheap, valued all the way down at $20,000 or less (although you can take a guess what a $20,000 home looks like!), and newly constructed single family homes, on average, are priced in the $40,000s. If you are looking to rent, or to own a rental property, Huntsville rental real estate is also quite affordable, with most rental properties going for around $400 a month.

What You Pay For: Huntsville Demographics:

The job situation in Huntsville is fairly normal, with average yearly income falling at just above $40,000, and the unemployment rate at 6.9%. Huntsville weather, however, is much better than the average for those who like it warm and sunny. During the coldest months, the temperature may drop to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, but during the summer it remains in the 70s and 80s. Perhaps the only downside to the Huntsville community is the crime rate, which is higher than national averages by a fair margin.

Huntsville Public Schools:

Although Alabama is behind the national average when it comes to amount of funding per pupil, Huntsville’s class sizes are moderate for elementary, middle, and high schools, with average class size ranging from 15 to 20. And despite Alabama’s low funding, Alabama students do well compared to national averages, receiving a B- where average is a C. Students beat national averages in both the SAT and the ACT. And recently, Alabama has ranked in the top ten states with the most National Board Certified Teachers, a fact which may somewhat account for the students’ excellent performance. Parents considering moving into the Huntsville area may send their children to school without having to fear for the quality of their education.

Attractions of Huntsville:

Owners of Huntsville real estate will be able to enjoy the Huntsville-Madison Co Public Library, which boasts over 500,000 books along with various audio and video materials. Residents may also want to visit the Huntsville Botanical Garden, which blends natural plant beauty with science, especially since Huntsville’s pleasant weather allows them to more fully enjoy the outdoor Garden. But perhaps best of all is Huntsville’s Space and Rocket Center, where kids can experience space camp, and even adults will have fun walking through the museum and learning about various jets and rockets.

With all the perks of living in Huntsville, it may come as no surprise to you that Huntsville residents stay in the area considerably longer than average U.S. residents will remain in one area. If you’re able to find residential Huntsville real estate with the aid of a good realtor, chances are that you won’t want to move either.
